Preacher defends belief women can't teach men

A U.S. Baptist preacher has publicly defended himself for firing a female Sunday School teacher after more than 50 years on the job because he believes the Bible bans women from teaching men.

Watertown First Baptist Church Pastor Tim LaBouf, also a city council member in Watertown, N.Y., said women could fulfill any role or responsibility they wanted to -- outside the church.

"My belief is that the qualifications for both men and women teaching spiritual matters in a church setting end at the church door, period," LaBouf said in a statement on the church Web site (http://www.nnyinfo.com/firstbaptist).

LaBouf and the church board sacked Mary Lambert, 81, earlier this month in a letter that cited the scriptural qualifications for Sunday School teachers, Lambert said.

"They quote First Timothy Two, 11-14: A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, she must be silent," Lambert said, reading from the letter.

HOUSEWIFE Lee Redmond has clawed her way into the Guinness World Records — by growing her fingernails to nearly 25 FEET.

The American stopped cutting her talons back in 1979 and has managed to avoid breaking any for the past 27 years.

Lee, from Salt Lake City, Utah, is flying to the UK next month to promote the 2007 edition of the Guinness book.

Her nails, measuring a total of 24ft 7.8ins, don’t stop her doing everyday tasks such as vacuuming and washing up — plus she cares for her husband, who has Alzheimer’s disease.

She said: “Everything’s a challenge but I’ve found a way to do things in my own way.

“People ask me if they get in my way. I say, ‘No, they get in everybody else’s way’.”

A COUPLE have gone through a bizarre divorce after a husband decided to have a sex change without telling his wife.

Stephen Everett, from The Street in Capel, had been happily married to Catherine Everett for seven years, during which time the couple had two children.

But all along Mr Everett, 41, was hiding a shocking secret - he really wanted to be a woman.

Teen charged with having child porn

When police officers came to John Patrick Johnson's home in Punta Gorda last month after his father was found dead, the 19-year-old made one mistake that could cost him his freedom.

He forgot to turn off his computer.

On July 25, Punta Gorda police responded to a suspicious death investigation at 7315 N. Seagrape St. Johnson's father was found dead, apparently from alcohol poisoning, reports said. While detectives were searching the residence, they went into Johnson's bedroom.

While in the room, detectives saw a picture of a naked juvenile female in a sexually suggestive pose on the desktop of his personal computer, according to a PGPD report.

Detectives applied for a search warrant for Johnson's computer. Later that day, Circuit Judge Michael McHugh signed a warrant and all computer equipment was seized.

Macon woman charged with raping 13-year-old

A Macon County woman is charged with sex crimes against four boys, and investigators say more children have said they are victims.

Sheriff Robert Holland on Tuesday said the investigation into 30-year-old Sacha Ladonna Moore is ongoing. The children all knew Moore through her friends, he said.

Investigators first arrested Moore on Aug. 3 after a 13-year-old boy told a detective she performed a sex act on him at her home, according to the sheriff and a search warrant obtained by the Citizen-Times on Tuesday.

Moore was arrested again Aug. 16 after investigators said they found more victims, Holland said.

She is charged with three counts of statutory rape of a child, five counts of disseminating obscenity, one count of disseminating obscenity to a minor and two counts of indecent liberties with a child.

Conservative activists try to curtail hotels’ pervasive in-room porn

Pornographic movies now seem nearly as pervasive in America’s hotel rooms as tiny shampoo bottles, and the lodging industry shows little concern as conservative activists rev up a protest campaign aimed at triggering a federal crackdown.

A coalition of 13 conservative groups - including the Family Research Council and Concerned Women for America - took out full-page ads in some editions of USA Today earlier this month urging the Justice Department and FBI to investigate whether some of the pay-per-view movies widely available in hotels violate federal and state obscenity laws.

The coalition also is trying to draw attention to CleanHotels.com, a directory of hotels and motels nationwide that pledge to exclude adult offerings from their in-room entertainment service.

Aztecs butchered, ate Spanish invaders

Skeletons found at an unearthed site in Mexico show Aztecs captured, ritually sacrificed and partially ate several hundred people traveling with invading Spanish forces in 1520.

Skulls and bones from the Tecuaque archeological site near Mexico City show about 550 victims had their hearts ripped out by Aztec priests in ritual offerings, and were dismembered or had their bones boiled or scraped clean, experts say.

The findings support accounts of Aztecs capturing and killing a caravan of Spanish conquistadors and local men, women and children traveling with them in revenge for the murder of Cacamatzin, king of the Aztec empire's No. 2 city of Texcoco.

Man receives four years for necrophilia

Parker Ward had no answers for why he had sex with the corpse of a woman he found dead inside a camper home.

In a hearing Wednesday in Forsyth County Superior Court, Ward paused before acknowledging to Judge Jeffrey Bagley that he had committed necrophilia.

Bagley sentenced Ward, 54, to four years in prison to be followed by four years of probation, a sentence recommended by District Attorney Penny Penn.

Necrophilia, one of the rarest felony crimes in Georgia, carries a maximum sentence of 10 years.

Asked by Bagley what happened on that night of Dec. 27, Ward began by saying he was "pretty much drunk" that night, having had about six rum drinks.

He said the 43-year-old woman's boyfriend asked him to check on her at her camper in the 2300 block of Canton Highway.

man sends porn pictures of ex-wife

A southeast Missouri man will go to jail for breaking into his ex-wife's e-mail and sending pornographic pictures of her to her relatives.

Alfred Seals, 47, of Cape Girardeau, pleaded guilty Wednesday to misdemeanor tampering with computer data, and was sentenced to 20 days in jail.

Seals gained access to his wife's e-mail account without her consent, then e-mailed the woman's family a Web site link and message stating, "something nice to see," according to a probable-cause statement.

The link took users to a Web site that contained several pornographic pictures Seals took of the woman when they were married.

The woman immediately suspected her ex-husband and went to police.

Family Lived In Filth, Bathed In Pond

Two parents in Lake County, Fla., were arrested after their children were found living in a filthy home without running water, according to a Local 6 News report. Police arrested Christine Foels and her fiancée Christopher Curran after receiving an anonymous call from a neighbor about their filthy home. The pair was living in the home with two girls, ages 5 and 4 months. "Investigators with the Department of Children and Families said the conditions were more than disturbing," Local 6 reporter Louis Bolden said. "They said it was criminal." Officers said a refrigerator inside the home was filled with rotting food. Also, the house has not had running water in more than a month, so the toilets were filled with feces. "They bathed in a pond that was in the back of the property," Lake County sheriff's Sgt. Christine Mysinger said.
