U.S. begins massive war games in Pacific
Three aircraft carriers filled the skies with fighters as one of the largest U.S. military exercises in decades got underway Tuesday off this island in the western Pacific.
For the first time ever, a Chinese delegation was sent to observe the U.S. war games. But as the show of American military power began, North Korea -- one of the region's most unpredictable countries -- was rattling some swords of its own.
The maneuvers, dubbed "Valiant Shield," bring three carriers together in the Pacific for the first time since the Vietnam War. Some 30 ships, 280 aircraft and 22,000 troops will be participating in the five-day war games, which end Friday.
The exercises are intended to boost the ability of the Navy, Air Force and Marines to work together and respond quickly to potential contingencies in this part of the world, U.S. military officials said. Even U.S. Coast Guard vessels were joining in the maneuvers.
Study shows motorcycle fatalities have soared after helmet law repeal
Motorcycle fatalities involving riders without helmets have soared in the nearly six years since Gov. Jeb Bush repealed the state's mandatory helmet law, a newspaper reported Sunday.
A Florida Today analysis of federal motorcycle crash statistics found ``unhelmeted'' deaths in Florida rose from 22 deaths in 1998 and 1999, the years before the helmet law repeal, to 250 deaths in 2004, the most recent data available. By comparison, Florida logged 270 deaths of riders without helmets during the 1990s, when riding without a helmet was illegal, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.

Milla Jovovich - Gentleman Who Fell
For the record I am a huge fan of Milla Jovovich who is well known for her staring roles in such films as Ultraviolet, Resident Evil, Joan of Arc and The Fifth Element. But not many people know about her amazing voice. In early 1994 she recorded her little known debut album The Divine Comedy.
Featureing her one and only hit song Gentleman Who Fell.
Two different videos were made for Gentleman Who Fell - the first version was directed by Lisa Bonet, featured Harry Dean Stanton, and was in color.
Milla wasn't satisfied with the way it came out and decided to make a new video (black & white).
A second album called The People Tree Sessions was recorded in 1998 although she had asked it never be realeased saying she was unsatisfyed with it.
It was realesed for a short time only to be quickly recalled and then re released in 2005
she has also done a few songs for soundtracks sutch as Underworld and Rules of Attraction. you can also find some rare demos on her web site

Man parades with sister's head
A truck driver beheaded his elder sister over a pending land dispute and paraded with the severed head in their village near Bannerghatta on Monday.
The assailant, Syed Hyder Ali Saab (53), was smoking a beedi at the 'panchayat katte' with the severed head and blood-stained chopper lying beside him when the police arrived, nearly half-an-hour after the incident.
Syed surrendered to the police. The gruesome murder of Noorjaan (60), a mother of three children, sent shockwaves through the sleepy village of Bingipura with locals horrified at seeing the bloodied assailant walking in front of their homes.
Around 7 am on Monday, Syed walked into a eucalyptus grove, the disputed land, with a chopper to collect firewood. Noorjan landed at the place and objected to it.

Clearwater cop arrested Sunday for beating his wife for refusing to engage in group sex
A Clearwater Police Officer was arrested Sunday after beating his wife for refusing to engage in group sex, according to a Pasco County Sheriff’s report. After 6:30 p.m. Sunday, 43-year-old Nicholas Brems and his wife, who live in Lutz, got into an argument when he suggested the pair engage in sexual acts with other couples, according to the report. Brems’ wife said after she told her husband no, he began pushing her head into a wall and punched her several times. According to the report, the beating left Brems’ wife with “blood streaming from the left side of her head,” as well as bruises on other parts of her body. When a deputy spoke with Brems, he said his actions were in self defense and he would “beat this, because he did nothing wrong,” according to the report.
Prosecution Seeks Death Penalty for Saddam
The prosecutor in the Saddam Hussein trial demanded the death penalty Monday for the deposed leader and two of his top co-defendendants.
Chief prosecutor Jaafar al-Moussawi said in closing arguments that the former Iraqi leader and his regime committed crimes against humanity in a "revenge" attack on Shiite civilians in the 1980s.
The arguments brought the eight-month-old trial into its final phase, and after Monday's session, the court adjourned until July 10, when the defense will begin making its final summation.
Commissioner Winton Charged In Police Beating
After complaints from the Miami-Dade Police Benevolent Association and black community groups, the State Attorney’s office has charged Commissioner Johnny Winton for an airport incident where he allegedly beat a police officer.
The City of Miami commissioner has been charged with two felony counts of battery on a police officer and disorderly intoxication, a misdemeanor, stemming from a May altercation at Miami International Airport.
Under Florida law, the governor can remove government officials charged with felonies from office pending the outcome of the case. A spokeswoman for Gov. Jeb Bush said Monday his office had not received Winton's charging documents and no decision had been made.
Winton, who police said was intoxicated, allegedly got into a fight with airport police May 15 after his flight was canceled. One officer was kicked in the groin and another suffered a chipped tooth, while Winton was injured himself after banging his head against a wall.
Wives offered for rent in India
Some husbands in western India are renting out their wives to other men, cashing in on a shortage of single women available for marriage, according to a news report Monday.
Atta Prajapati, a farm worker who lives in Gujarat state, leases out his wife Laxmi to a wealthy landowner for $175 US a month, the Times of India reported, citing unidentified police officials. A farm worker earns a monthly minimum wage of around $22. Laxmi is expected to live with the man, look after him and his house, and have sex with him, the report said.
The Times said this was not an isolated incident in the western state, and that several men rent their wives to other men on a month-by-month basis.
Gujarat officials were unwilling to comment on the report when contacted Monday by The Associated Press.

No sex please, robot, just clean the floor
The race is on to keep humans one step ahead of robots: an international team of scientists and academics is to publish a “code of ethics” for machines as they become more and more sophisticated.
Although the nightmare vision of a Terminator world controlled by machines may seem fanciful, scientists believe the boundaries for human-robot interaction must be set now — before super-intelligent robots develop beyond our control.
“There are two levels of priority,” said Gianmarco Verruggio, a roboticist at the Institute of Intelligent Systems for Automation in Genoa, northern Italy, and chief architect of the guide, to be published next month. “We have to manage the ethics of the scientists making the robots and the artificial ethics inside the robots.”
Verruggio and his colleagues have identified key areas that include: ensuring human control of robots; preventing illegal use; protecting data acquired by robots; and establishing clear identification and traceability of the machines.
“Scientists must start analysing these kinds of questions and seeing if laws or regulations are needed to protect the citizen,” said Verruggio. “Robots will develop strong intelligence, and in some ways it will be better than human intelligence.
FBI says, it has “No hard evidence connecting Bin Laden to 9/11”
This past weekend, a thought provoking e-mail circulated through Internet news groups, and was sent to the Muckraker Report by Mr. Paul V. Sheridan (Winner of the 2005 Civil Justice Foundation Award), bringing attention to the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorist web page for Usama Bin Laden.[1] (See bottom of this web page for Most Wanted page) In the e-mail, the question is asked, “Why doesn’t Usama Bin Laden’s Most Wanted poster make any direct connection with the events of September 11, 2001?” The FBI says on its Bin Laden web page that Usama Bin Laden is wanted in connection with the August 7, 1998 bombings of the United States Embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya. According to the FBI, these attacks killed over 200 people. The FBI concludes its reason for “wanting” Bin Laden by saying, “In addition, Bin Laden is a suspect in other terrorists attacks throughout the world.”
On June 5, 2006, the Muckraker Report contacted the FBI Headquarters, (202) 324-3000, to learn why Bin Laden’s Most Wanted poster did not indicate that Usama was also wanted in connection with 9/11. The Muckraker Report spoke with Rex Tomb, Chief of Investigative Publicity for the FBI. When asked why there is no mention of 9/11 on Bin Laden’s Most Wanted web page, Tomb said, “The reason why 9/11 is not mentioned on Usama Bin Laden’s Most Wanted page is because the FBI has no hard evidence connecting Bin Laden to 9/11.”
Surprised by the ease in which this FBI spokesman made such an astonishing statement, I asked, “How this was possible?” Tomb continued, “Bin Laden has not been formally charged in connection to 9/11.” I asked, “How does that work?” Tomb continued, “The FBI gathers evidence. Once evidence is gathered, it is turned over to the Department of Justice. The Department of Justice than decides whether it has enough evidence to present to a federal grand jury. In the case of the 1998 United States Embassies being bombed, Bin Laden has been formally indicted and charged by a grand jury. He has not been formally indicted and charged in connection with 9/11 because the FBI has no hard evidence connected Bin Laden to 9/11.”
