Transsexual launches huge legal claim over sex change

A transsexual has launched the biggest ever legal claim to be brought over a sex change.

Jessica Bussert, formerly known as Josh, is seeking £500,000 from Hitachi Data Systems under the Sex Discrimination (Gender Reassignment) Regulations 1999.

She is also suing Hitachi in the US for $3.6m (£1.93m) damages over claims the company demoted her from her high-level IT job after she had facial and breast surgery.

The regulations apply to any employee who intends to undergo gender reassignment, is going through the process or has already done so.

Bussert relocated to the UK from the American Mid West because she thought the UK would be more accepting of transgender people. The move came after a 19-year-old transsexual was murdered and set on fire in Indiana near where Bussert came from.

After taking six weeks off for the facial feminisation and breast surgery in March 2005, Bussert claims he was effectively demoted because he had to report to a different person who had previously been hired as his equal and was given basic administrative tasks normally performed by secretaries. His salary remained the same at £88,000.

A spokeswoman for Hitachi UK said: "We don't think it's appropriate to comment, other than to say that we deny those allegations and will be defending them to the full extent."

  • Top 10 Most Common Passwords

    Taken from
  • Modern Life is Rubbish

  • An aggregate sample of passwords (primarily from the UK), we take a look at the most commonly occurring:

    10. 'thomas' (0.99‰)
First off, at number 10, is the most common format of passwords - the name. Thomas is a perennially popular name in the UK (2nd most popular in 2000), so it is perhaps no surprise that it makes the top 10, with nearly 1 in 1,000 people opting for this ubiquitous forename as their password.

We can only guess that there are a lot of fans of Thomas Jefferson or Thomas Edison out there! The high prevelance of Christian names only further reinforces the fact that loved ones are a common choice whn it comes to passwords.

    9. 'arsenal' (1.11‰)
Football teams tend to be another popular choice, and the gunners fall in 9th place. This may or may not be reflective of the fact that the word 'arsenal' starts with a 4-letter swear word - another popular choice when it comes to passwords.

Arsenal are ranked 6th overall in average attendance rankings, and are the 2nd most popular football-related password.

    8. 'monkey' (1.33‰)
Quite why the monkey makes it into 8th place is beyond me, but the fact that it's a 6-letter word (6 letters is a typical minimum length for passwords), is easily typed and is memorable probably helps cement its position as ideal password material.

Still, it's quite worrying that there's such a trend - perhaps the internet and monkeys are inextricably linked?

    7. 'charlie' (1.39‰)
Another name - nowhere near as common a name as No. 10, Thomas, but it's our most popular name-based password overall.
Could of course, be a homage to a number of famous Charlies - Chaplin, Sheen, or those of a Chocolate Factory persuasion. Or, of course, it could just be the case that they're referring to it's slang usage.

    6. 'qwerty' (1.41‰)
I wonder where the inspiration for this one came from? Perhaps when faced with a blinking cursor and an instruction to choose a password people will tend to look to the things closest to them - which would explain why 1 in 700 people choose 'qwerty' as their password.

    5. '123456' (1.63‰)
Can you count to 6? It's the most common minimum required length of password - and the 5th most common password.

    4. 'letmein' (1.76‰)
A modern-day version of 'open sesame' - and 1 person in 560 will type 'letmein' as their password. Quite why is beyond me.
I could be mistaken, but I have a hunch that 'letmein' has been featured in a movie or TV series - Fox Mulder's password from the X Files - 'trustno1' - also ranked quite highly.

    3. 'liverpool' (1.82‰)
The most popular football team by some margin, Liverpool was the third most popular password overall. Does this mean that 1 in 550 people is such a devout Liverpool fan that they would be willing to entrust private data to the team they love?

Liverpool ranked 3rd in the average attendance ratings - leaving the 2 most popular teams, Manchester United and Newcastle United, out of the top 10 list - perhaps because they're too long and difficult to type.

    2. 'password' (3.780‰)
Akin to pressing the 'any' key, when told to enter a 'password', it would seem that users aren't the sharpest tool in the box - with almost 1 in 250 people choosing the word 'password'.

    1. '123' (3.784‰)
With nearly 4 people in 1,000 opting for a simple numerical sequence as their password (it should be noted that there was no lower length limit specified), '123' must be the first thing a lot of people think of when asked to specify a password. One dreads to think what their PIN number might be!

Man severs penis to prove faithfulness

A man who severed his penis in an attempt to convince his wife that he was faithful to her was recovering after surgery to reattach the organ at a northern Malaysian hospital, a news report said Tuesday.

The 41-year-old man, who was not identified, got into an argument last Friday with his wife, who found a text message on his mobile phone from another woman. The man was heard by his son shouting that he wanted to prove he was not having an affair, the New Straits Times reported.

The assertion was followed by loud screams and the man emerged from his room bleeding profusely, his 14-year-old son quoted as saying. His wife rushed him to hospital.

Concerned Christians in Jackson County, Indiana, are hoping to shut down a local porn shop by posting customers' photographs online. Meanwhile, some of these pro-family community activists are taking advantage of the chance to witness to the shop's clientele.

The Lion's Den is an adult bookstore that was opened in Uniontown, Indiana, just off Interstate 65 eight months ago. Ever since, protesters have been outside the store around the clock, taking pictures of customers and placing some of the photos on the Internet.

It's all part of an effort by a group called "War-Line," which runs the website. Rob Patterson, a member of the Christian activist group, says he and his fellow protesters have declared war on porn in their community.

  • Cop named world champ doughnut eater

Three minutes. Thirteen doughnuts. Think you could chow down that many morning morsels in that little time?

Walworth County Jail Training Sgt. Howard Sawyers didn't think he could, either, but he did. In doing so, he earned the title of world champion doughnut-eating cop.

"The secret for eating doughnuts is dunking them in water," said Sawyers, who finished third in the competition last year. "You do a semi-circle of water cups half to three-quarters full. You rip 'em, you dunk them and you shove. And you do that as fast as you can for three minutes."

  • Pedophiles to launch political party

Dutch pedophiles are launching a political party to push for a cut in the legal age for sexual relations to 12 from 16 and the legalization of child pornography and sex with animals, sparking widespread outrage. The Charity, Freedom and Diversity (NVD) party said on its Web site it would be officially registered Wednesday, proclaiming: "We are going to shake The Hague awake! "The party said it wanted to cut the legal age for sexual relations to 12 and eventually scrap the limit altogether. "A ban just makes children curious," Ad van den Berg, one of the party's founders, told the Algemeen Dagblad (AD) newspaper. "We want to make pedophilia the subject of discussion," he said, adding the subject had been a taboo since the 1996 Marc Dutroux child abuse scandal in neighboring Belgium.
