Homophobia

I just received a friend request on myspace from some ignorant homophobe and while I harbor no same sex tendencies I find it incredibly offensive that some jackass feels the need to talk shit on a group of people because of there sexual preference. Not to mention lesbians are considered homosexual and I am a major fan of lesbians. No one should be persecuted for there religious beliefs, sexual preference, or race. And the fact that this guy occupies his time thinking about other peoples use of there genitals speaks volumes about his lack of inelegance. Now that I am done ranting . Here is his profile feel free to tell this jackass off..

Monks brawl at peace protest

Protesters calling for an end to recent violence in Sri Lanka found themselves brawling with hardline Buddhist monks Thursday, after a rally dubbed a "peace protest" turned unexpectedly violent.

Organizers said there were around 1,000 people in a park in the capital, Colombo, listening to a range of speakers when hardline saffron-robed monks opposed to concessions to Tamil Tiger rebels mounted the stage and erected banners.

Some more moderate Buddhist monks, protesting for peace, were already on the stage when punches were thrown. Soon, monks' robes and fists were flying, although no one was badly hurt, witnesses said.

"They were saying we should go to war," said pro-peace monk Madampawe Assagee. "We like to listen to other opinions so we let them do that but then they started fighting and we couldn't control some of our people. They tried to make it a big fight but we settled it in a few minutes."

Will technology revolutionize boinking?

Call it lack of imagination, but my fantasy of sex in the future is almost entirely based on Anne Francis wearing a metallic mini-dress in the movie "Forbidden Planet."

Others are not so constrained. As recent news reports indicate, we’re at that 1939-World’s-Fair moment in which there’s just enough new technology out there to spark some creative thinking about the shape of boinking to come.

When visionaries like Natasha Vita-More, an artist, futurist and transhumanist, look through mental telescopes, they talk about “neuromacrosensing” and millions of nanobots coursing “throughout the body communicating with different cells, sending signals to the brain so the whole body acts as a sensory communications system.”

That ought to make sex feel pretty good, but you’ll have to wait. Such things are a long way off. But other changes are coming much sooner. A few have already arrived.

Earlier this month, Palatin Technologies announced that a trial of its new drug for post-menopausal female sexual dysfunction succeeded in rejuvenating desire in women who had little of it. The drug, a so-called melanocortin agonist, acts through the central nervous system.

End of the road for 'light' cigarettes after epic US tobacco case

America's big cigarette makers must stop describing their products as "low tar," "light," "ultra light" or "mild," according to the decision of a long-running legal battle with the US Government - but they will not have to pay billions of dollars on campaigns to stop people smoking.

Although the US Department of Justice formally won the case, the judge, US District Judge Gladys Kessler, said she could not force the tobacco makers to pay for $14 billion (£7.4 billion) of anti-smoking remedies because of an appeal ruling in a separate case that limited their financial liabilities.

Instead, the tobacco companies, which include Philip Morris USA, RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company and British American Tobacco, will have to change their labels, put all the documents used in the seven-year case on their websites until 2016 and take out television and full-page newspaper advertisements to explain the changes.

India delivers safe sex message with morning papers

Faced with the alarming spread of HIV/ AIDS, officials in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday taped a pack of three condoms to the front page of thousands of newspapers delivered to people in 50 villages and four towns in a bid to spread a message of safe sex.

"Earlier we distributed condoms at wine shops and bars, through milk vendors and at pan (tobacco) shops but we met with lukewarm response," says Ashok Kumar, the director of Andhra Pradesh State for AIDS Control Society.

A recent study by the National Aids Control Organization indicated a 25 to 28 percent increase in the number of HIV infections in Andhra, making it the worst affected state in the country, with nearly one million known cases in 2005.

The latest attempt to rein in HIV was centered on Nizamabad town, 170 km (105 miles) northeast of Hyderabad, the state capital.

Local principal charged with throwing human feces at children

A well known elementary school principal in High Park has been charged with assault after being accused of throwing human feces at children.

Maria Pantalone, the sister of Toronto Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone, is the principal at the Keele Street Junior Public School, near Keele and Bloor. She has been suspended without pay and is due in court at the end of the month after an alleged incident with two children on June 30th.

Several supporters of Pantalone, including her brother and Toronto Mayor David Miller have voiced their support for her in this matter.

"I have the highest regard for her, she's a terrific principal, a wonderful human being, and that's one of the best schools in Toronto and that's because of her leadership," said Miller.

Pantalone has been ordered to sign a release forbidding her from having any unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 16.

Why doesn't America believe in evolution?

Human beings, as we know them, developed from earlier species of animals: true or false? This simple question is splitting America apart, with a growing proportion thinking that we did not descend from an ancestral ape. A survey of 32 European countries, the US and Japan has revealed that only Turkey is less willing than the US to accept evolution as fact.

Religious fundamentalism, bitter partisan politics and poor science education have all contributed to this denial of evolution in the US, says Jon Miller of Michigan State University in East Lansing, who conducted the survey with his colleagues. "The US is the only country in which [the teaching of evolution] has been politicised," he says. "Republicans have clearly adopted this as one of their wedge issues. In most of the world, this is a non-issue."

Miller's report makes for grim reading for adherents of evolutionary theory. Even though the average American has more years of education than when Miller began his surveys 20 years ago, the percentage of people in the country who accept the idea of evolution has declined from 45 in 1985 to 40 in 2005 (Science, vol 313, p 765). That's despite a series of widely publicised advances in genetics, including genetic sequencing, which shows strong overlap of the human genome with those of chimpanzees and mice. "We don't seem to be going in the right direction," Miller says.

PARIS HILTON has become a record breaker - but she might not be too happy at the accolade.

The hotel heiress has stormed into the Guinness Book Of World Records.

But it's not for her, erm, acting skills or singing.

Paris is in there for being the most overrated celeb.

A spokesperson for the book says it took its info from a number of magazine polls.

Readers voted on their least favorite and most overrated celebrity and Paris's name kept coming up on top.

Other celebrities to make it into the Guinness Book Of World Records this year include Madonna with the highest earnings for a female singer in 2004.

Wrestling superstar The Rock is also lauded for being the highest paid actor in a debut role for The Scorpion King.
