Pilot charged with illegally landing chopper in public street for tommy lee
A pilot faced reckless flying and other charges for landing a helicopter on a public street to pick up Tommy Lee and take him to a concert, prosecutors said.
David Keith Martz, 49, allegedly landed the helicopter July 7 outside a home in the Hollywood Hills.
He was summoned to give the 43-year-old rocker a 50-mile flight to a Nine Inch Nails concert in Irvine, said Frank Mateljan, a spokesman for the City Attorney's Office.
Martz was charged with one count each of reckless flying, landing an aircraft on a public road and landing an aircraft without a permit, Mateljan said.
Martz was to be arraigned in Hollywood on Wednesday. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
Martz, who lives in La Jolla, near San Diego, has an unlisted telephone number and couldn't be reached. Mateljan said the city attorney's office didn't know the name of his lawyer.
Lee publicist Dvora Vener Englefield said Tuesday that Lee would have no comment.
Bin Laden Offers Gibson Anger Management Lessons
Aug. 1, 2006 - In an extraordinary appearance on the Arabic-language Al-Jazeera network today, terror mastermind Osama bin Laden reached out to Mel Gibson and offered the Hollywood actor lessons in anger management. Millions of viewers tuned in expecting to see the Al Qaeda leader in one of his trademark terror videos, only to find the world's most wanted man giving career advice instead. Bin Laden said that while he did not know Gibson personally, he decided to offer his help after hearing about Gibson's anti-Semitic rant to an LAPD officer, which the Al Qaeda kingpin called "a cry for help." "Listen, I'm all for blaming things on the Jews,” said bin Laden, “but this guy went too far." The Al Qaeda leader said that the next time Gibson feels the urge to spew hateful rhetoric, "count to ten first." "There's a time and a place for everything," bin Laden said. "And the time to launch into an anti-Semitic tirade is when you're speaking on Al-Jazeera from the comfort and safety of your cave—not when you're stopped by the cops." In Malibu, Gibson was tightlipped on the topic of bin Laden's recommendations, but issued the following statement through an official spokesman: "Mel Gibson is not now nor has he ever been anti-Semitic, and is looking forward to putting this incident behind him so he can get to work on his next film, 'Lethal Rabbi.'"
Man turns in prostitute girlfriend
A local woman was arrested after police in Mills -- tipped by a suspicious boyfriend -- said she agreed to have sex with a plainclothes officer in exchange for money.
Jennifer Lynne Mills, 44, was arrested Saturday night on a misdemeanor prostitution charge. If convicted, she could be fined and sentenced to up to six months in a jail.
Police said Mills' live-in boyfriend called Saturday to complain about men calling their apartment. He said those calls were in response to a classified advertisement in the Quik Quarter, a local shopper, offering "relaxing massage" and "pretty, pleasant company."
According to the police report, Mills Police Lt. Phil Crouch called the number in the ad and agreed to meet Mills in a parking lot. The two negotiated in Crouch's pickup truck before Crouch drove away and other officers swooped in to arrest Mills.

Axl Rose Goes Down Skid Row, Bach to the Rescue
Guns N' Roses star Axl Rose fell ill during the final show of the band's European tour after a doctor had advised the singer not to perform. Former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach, who earlier joined the band on stage for a version of "My Michelle," took Rose's place and completed the concert at London's Wembley Arena.
Axl had been diagnosed with low blood pressure and low blood sugar earlier that day after performing at Wembley Arena, followed by a surprise show at the city's Cuckoo Club. He succumbed to illness during the band's last performance of the night after being advised by doctors not to do the show -- his response to that suggestion was "f*** that."
"I approached this last show with equal parts determination, obligation, responsibility and insanity," he said. "It was an amazing night." The singer said afterwards that the band had "an amazing tour."
Rose managed two hours of the show, with Bach filling in on the mic for part of the final two songs: Night Train" and "Paradise City."
"I want to thank everyone in Europe and the UK for inspiring us and for giving us the opportunity to play for them," Axl said after the show.
GNR hits the U.S. beginning in September.
Thai bride 'killed and barbecued British husband'
A BRITISH man was murdered and then barbecued on charcoal in a national park, after divorcing his Thai wife because of her gambling debts.
The body parts of Toby Charnaud, 41, were scattered in the park, one of the last refuges of Thailand's remaining tigers, a court in Petchaburi was told yesterday.
Mr Charnaud had sold his farm in Wiltshire after falling in love with a bar girl in Bangkok and gone to live in the Thai resort of Hua Hin, where he bought two bars.
However, after taking his wife, Pannada, home to visit his parents in Britain, the marriage began to fall apart.
Mr Charnaud divorced Pannada because of her gambling debts. He gave her an £11,000 settlement and won custody of their five-year-old son.
On 29 March last year, Pannada, 35, reported Mr Charnaud missing to police, but in court she admitted she had lied. On 27 March, she had, in fact, helped five relatives and friends to dispose of his body.
