Teen charged with having child porn

When police officers came to John Patrick Johnson's home in Punta Gorda last month after his father was found dead, the 19-year-old made one mistake that could cost him his freedom.

He forgot to turn off his computer.

On July 25, Punta Gorda police responded to a suspicious death investigation at 7315 N. Seagrape St. Johnson's father was found dead, apparently from alcohol poisoning, reports said. While detectives were searching the residence, they went into Johnson's bedroom.

While in the room, detectives saw a picture of a naked juvenile female in a sexually suggestive pose on the desktop of his personal computer, according to a PGPD report.

Detectives applied for a search warrant for Johnson's computer. Later that day, Circuit Judge Michael McHugh signed a warrant and all computer equipment was seized.
