THE WORLD'S FIRST PENIS TRANSPLANT


DOCTORS have carried out the world's first penis transplant.

A 44-year-old man injured in an accident earlier this year was given the organ of a brain-dead patient half his age.

Surgeons in China who performed the procedure claim it was a success. The man was able to urinate through his new organ within 10 days.

But the team said the donated penis was removed after two weeks due to "a severe psychological problem with the recipient and his wife".

Although male sex organs have been re-attached before, it is the first time another man's penis has been grafted on.

During a complex 15-hour operation, docs stitched nerve fibres and blood vessels to the donated four-inch organ.
