Cop arrested over attack on schoolgirl in toilet

An off-duty police officer has been arrested after he climbed over a women's toilet cubicle wall and attacked a 17-year-old schoolgirl, police said.

Police sergeant Ken Notoya, 35, of Narita, was arrested for trespassing and inflicting bodily injury. He admits to the allegations, but investigators are still trying to find out the motive for the alleged attack.

The high school girl Notoya is accused of attacking sustained minor wounds to her mouth after the police officer allegedly held his hand over it to apparently stop her from screaming.

Chiba Prefectural Police officials apologized over the incident.

"This is not something that should have been done by a police officer supposed to ensure laws are obeyed," prefectural police spokesman Hideo Okada said. "We want to thoroughly investigate the facts involved and deal with the matter in the firmest possible manner."
