MOTHER SAW SON KILL HIS BROTHER

A mother saw her son die in a pool of blood after his brother stabbed him three times in a drunken brawl. Elizabeth Whitham came home from work to find son Geoffrey, 35, lying face-down on the living room carpet. Geoffrey's brother Nigel, 41, was on the phone calling an ambulance. His arm and hand were stained with blood. Mrs Whitham turned Geoffrey over and tried to comfort him. He opened his eyes and looked up at her, then went limp. Nigel pleaded guilty yesterday to murdering Geoffrey on February 23 at the family home in Embo, near Dornoch, Sutherland. The High Court in Glasgow heard how Geoffrey, a jobless chef, confronted Nigel over his heavy drinking. Nigel retaliated by angrily condemning Geoffrey for his drug abuse. Geoffrey grabbed Nigel by the throat. And Nigel, who had picked up a knife from the kitchen, stabbed his brother in the neck, stomach and armpit.
