Charlie Crist is being asked to pardon the late Jim Morrison, lead singer of The Doors, 38 years after he was convicted of exposing himself during a Miami concert.<br /><br />Dave Diamond, a cable TV producer from Dayton, Ohio, wrote to Crist last month asking for the pardon. Diamond said the goal is to remember the Melbourne, Fla., native as an artist, not a rock 'n' roll bad boy with a rap sheet.<br /><br />Crist is an alumnus of Florida State, which Morrison had attended.<br /><br />"Well, given that fact, I'm certainly willing to review it," said Crist.<br /><br />Morrison was charged days after a concert at Dinner Key Auditorium in Coconut Grove in 1969. He alleged exposed himself and simulated a sex act, which he denied doing.<br /><br />He was acquitted on a felony charge for lewd and lascivious behavior, but was convicted of indecent exposure and profanity.<br /><br />Many feel the Miami arrest put Morrison and the band in a downward spiral, which led to promoters canceling concerts and earned the band a stream of negative publicity.<br /><br />Diamond and other fans say Morrison wouldn't have been charged if the same situation occurred today.<br /><br />"We'd just like to see where we get to a point to let Morrison be judged because of the music and poetry and not be judged because of this Miami case," said Diamond.<br /><br />The hard-living Morrison died of heart failure in a Paris bathtub in 1971, while his case was still on appeal. He was 27.<br /><br />Morrison's father, retired U.S. Adm. George S. Morrison, 87, who lives in California, said he would support a pardon.<br /><br />Crist, however, cannot pardon someone by himself. He needs two of the three other members of the Florida Cabinet, which acts as the state clemency board. In addition, there are no procedures for posthumous pardons.<br /><br />In his letter to Crist, Diamond noted the former New York Gov. George Pataki pardoned the late comedian Lenny Bruce on an obscenity conviction.<br /><br />"It's not about Jim Morrison's image as the Lizard King or The Doors music. She stared intently at the yellow pages slowly sipping at a glass of ice tea. Her eyes were cold and dead as if she was only alive by some base instinct deep inside telling her to keep breathing. She was not aware she had died long ago. Visions of lost love and childhood trauma danced in her head as she silently screamed for someone any one to notice her. She wished she could feel anything for just a moment a spark of life. Anything to let her know she was still alive but no matter how hard she tried she still felt nothing. The years of isolation and fear had left her completely numb. She looked up only for a second and quietly said no more and I watched as what was left of her exit the thin frail body it had once called home. Quietly her body slumped in the booth seat of the small diner. I watched as people passed her to involved with there own lives to notice as she laid there dead and alone. The bedroom was secured with a dead bolt accessible only from the outside and an alarm system that went off if the door was opened. There was a camera in the room that recorded what the girl was doing during at all hours of the day and night and the only furnishings in the room was a urine soaked mattress, a blanket, a pillow and an empty dresser.<br /><br />Clint M. Engstrom, the girl's 32-year-old father, and her stepmother, Lynn M. Engstrom, 35, are charged with causing mental harm to a child, a felony that carries a maximum penalty of 12 years, six months in prison and a $25,000 fine.<br /><br />"The facts are bizarre in this case," Winnebago County District Attorney Christian Gossett said. Not a Chiclet but an 8GB hard drive! Toshiba showed off its tiny, 0.85-inch hard drive last night, which is so small that it may have to be slapped with a "choking hazard" warning. It actually has a Guinness Book of World Records entry and weighs all of 2 grams. The drive has just jumped from 4GB to 8GB...can 16GB be far behind?<br /><br />At its storage booth, Toshiba also showed off external storage hard drives (the first it's ever released), plus the first-ever writeable HD-DVD drives, in form factors for both desktop PCs and laptops. It has been under the scrutiny of authorities in Sweden and around the world for some time.<br /><br />The site was briefly closed down after raids by the Swedish police last May. After initially moving to the Netherlands, the site returned to Sweden in June. Swedish authorities have been put under pressure to do more to stop the site. William Davis wants $1.5 million from the Murfreesboro Police Department and other defendants, according to a complaint filed last week in Rutherford County Chancery Court. A copy of the lawsuit can be found below. According to the 75-year-old Davis, police and animal control officers raided his home twice in December 2003 and took the frozen animals, along with 46 cats, one dog, and assorted "wild game meat." Included among the cats removed from his home and later euthanized, Davis charges, were Pixie Bob, Miss Patchwork, and Big Duke. The searches resulted in animal cruelty charges being leveled against Davis since conditions in his two residences were deplorable. A veterinarian estimated that carpeting had a half-inch layer of animal feces ground into it and that the stench was so overwhelming it was hard to breathe through your nose without gagging (Davis pleaded guilty to a single animal cruelty count and was placed on a year's probation). The Davis lawsuit, which was, amazingly, not filed pro se, notes that he was keeping one of the frozen cats so that he could submit the animal to the Guinness Book of World Records. The lawsuit reveals that the cat was exceedingly large at birth. 'We don't have enough food and the bride price will enable us to buy food. Three months ago my 15-year-old daughter married.<br /><br />We were not so desperate before. Now I have to marry them younger. And all five of them will have to get married if the drought becomes worse. The bride price is 200,000 afghanis [£2,000]. His father came to our house to arrange it. The boy pays in instalments. First he paid us 5,000 afghanis, which I used to buy food.'<br /><br />Azizgul is not unique. Tom Claunch said officers were called to an apartment in the 800 block of NASA Parkway about 7:30 p.m. on Sunday and found the boy dead.<br /><br />Sergio Pelico's mother told police he had watched a report on Saddam's death on a Telemundo news broadcast before he hanged himself, Claunch said.<br /><br />"It appears to be accidental," he said of the boy's death.
